in the vineyard : These grapes originate from a unique vineyard site, located amongst the tall mountains behind the village of Villiersdorp. Vintage 2014 enjoyed a high summer rainfall compliment which surprisingly presented better than average fruit. These circumstances proved to be ideal and the resulting wines show wonderful charm and excellent fruit flavours. The soils of the Elands Kloof valley are clay based and their lack of irrigation ensures a unique opportunity expressed in this wonderful mineral rich wine with excellent purity of fruit and long natural acid balance.

about the harvest:

in the cellar :  Achieving character with best Chardonnay wines normally happens through the compliment of maturing in French Oak barrels. In this instance the Sans Barrique cuvee enjoys no wood, which is the key to its crisp clean personality. The palate and character of this style is achieved through leaving the wine on its primary lees for a number of months, thereby gaining flavours from the natural bed of original fermentation yeasts as they breakdown!
