Ansela is a deeply coloured and full-bodied with richly concentrated cassis, coffee bean and green pepper on the nose. Rich full palate, good concentration of flavours, well balanced acid and firm tannins, giving the wine good backing and enabling the concentrate fruit flavours to come to the fore, and lasting for some time thereafter.
Ansela van de Caab was born into slavery, a child of a bondswoman and an early settler. In 1699 the Governor of the Cape granted a piece of land to a German, Lourens Campher. He married Ansela after she was freed and together they built a humble house and planted the first vines on Muratie.
