Vergenoegd Runner Duck Red 2008

Colour: Deep ruby red.
Nose: Complex nose with dark fruit tones with whiffs of white chocolate, pepper, vanilla and spice. Subtle hints lead pencil leather and cigar box type flavors.
Palette: Elegant with soft tannins, accessible and smooth.

This is an easy drinking red wine, despite it’s youthful age. To achieve this, the choice of the three cultivars were important. With Nouriga Nacional, Malbec and Cabernet Franc, structure is ensured, yet a softer red is produced, that does not need aging to soften tannins.

It is suited to serving with beef (sirloin/rump) and poultry, for example duck.  If chilled, excellent with carpaccio.  Pasta with bolognaise or creamy sauces are ideal.  When serving, this red can be chilled slightly or decanted to soften tannins.

in the vineyard : With the Runner Duck Red Vergenoegd has created a wine that is easy drinking despite it’s youthful age. Selection of the three cultivars included in this red was of the utmost importance. The three cultivars chosen ensure structure, yet produced a softer red that need not to age to soften tannins. Touriga Nacional, Malbec and Cabernet Franc proved to be ideal with this in mind.
